STEP to Native CAD, Converting Imported Assemblies with Nothing Lost

Every engineering team knows the moment a supplier package lands. The assembly arrives as a STEP, it opens, and that is where the good news ends. What comes in is hundreds of imported parts with no feature history, no structure, and names like Part1 through Part400, and every one of them needs a name, a place in the assembly tree, and a real file before anyone can actually build on it.

The usual answer is weeks of manual conversion, with an engineer renaming bodies, rebuilding structure, and recreating parts one at a time, or the team simply lives with the dumb import and pays for it on every downstream change. Neither one is engineering work. Both consume engineers.

Read First, Convert Second

The bananaz agent reads the whole STEP before it touches anything, mapping the geometry, the structure, and the relationships between parts, and finding what is broken along the way, whether that is corrupt faces, duplicate bodies, or geometry that will not survive translation. Converting blind is how imports lose data, so the agent does not convert blind.

From that read it plans the conversion, laying out what each part will become, how the assembly will be structured, and what needs attention, and the engineer approves the plan before anything is converted. The judgment stays with the person, and the grind moves to the agent.

Part by Part, the Assembly Comes Back

Then the conversion runs, and part by part the assembly comes back named, placed, and real. Every component becomes its own native file with a proper name, sitting in its correct place in the assembly structure, open and ready to build on. Not a block of dumb geometry wearing a native file extension, but an assembly your team can actually work in.

Nothing gets lost along the way, because the agent validated the conversion against the original STEP as it went. What the supplier sent is what your vault now holds, in your native format, under your naming, inside your structure.

Why It Matters

Imported geometry has always forced a choice between weeks of manual conversion and living with dumb solids forever. With the conversion planned, approved, and validated by an agent that read the whole STEP first, that choice goes away, and the supplier package that landed in the morning is a native assembly by the afternoon.

That is what it means to make imported data yours.
